![]() ![]() One of our favorite activities was eating breakfast on the veranda, looking out at the serene ocean that was literally 15 yards from our veranda. They all have stunning wrap-around verandas with outside chairs / rocking chairs and a picnic table. The cottages are absolutely beautiful in a simple, non-pretentious way. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the Sunset Key concierge and escorted to our cottage, including a tour of the grounds and facilities along the way. ![]() The ferry crossing takes 10 minutes including loading and docking. Everyone we met during check-in was extremely professional and courteous. Within 30 seconds we were confirmed in an ocean front two bedroom cottage. The check-in agent called over to Sunset Key and inquired about availability of an Ocean view cottage for "Mr. Upon arriving at the front desk at the West Key West (you check in at the sister hotel prior to taking a complimentary ferry to Sunset Key) I inquired about an upgrade to a full ocean view. Prior to arrival, I was happy to note that my reservation was pre-upgraded to a partial ocean view cottage about 1 week prior to arrival, although I was hoping for a full ocean view. The resort definitely exceeded my expectations, and that is saying something since my expectations were quite high. This was my first time in Key West, and I was traveling with a total of 4 other family members. This vacation was booked in the summer of 2006 using 100k Starpoints, which is a steal by current standards. I spent 6 nights at the Westin Sunset Key in Key West during February 2007 on an award stay. When it was Hilton it was in a category that precluded stays on points (that's right, no matter how many points you had, you couldn't redeem there). I would go back in a second.nice to hear that it's now part of Starwood. It's very nice, un-Hilton-like, on a private island just a few minutes ferry ride from downtown Key West. Is there a bridge or some other way to get from Susnet Key to Key West?I've stayed there.a few years ago when it was a Hilton. It seems like the drive down might be interesting, even at 3+ hours. I have the option of flying into Miami or into Key West. Is a car really needed to stay in the area? I've never been in Key West so I'm not sure if a 7 to 9 night stay is too long. It looks like there's some sort of ferry/boat between this resort and the Westin Key West Resort & Marina. I believe the water will still be warm so it should be possible to swim in the ocean. Has anyone stayed there? I will be going around Christmas. Their web site has very little information. I just found this resort on SPG, but have not heard much about it before. The airfare was much cheaper than into Key West and I love the drive. We're renting a car and driving from Miami. Sunset Key might be a different story so I'll let the others report what they have experienced. However, I don't think there is much of a beach in key west especially at the resort. There used to be a boat to take you to Sunset Key Resort for a fee of $10 per person when the Hilton owned the property. I have never been there before so I might change my mind after my stay and think 9 days is not enough. I would like to see other parts of Florida if I had that much time. However, if you don't have a car I think 9 days may be a little too much. I don't believe you need a car there since the location is close to Duval Street where all the action is. I have a stay booked there at the end of Sept. This was a Hilton until 7/31/06 so I guess there isn't much about it on the website yet.
